Pleasantly surprised

Have just come back from my meeting and am very pleased to have recorded a loss of 0.6kg. Considering I did next to no exercise this week, I can't be unhappy. Having said that of course, another 300g would have been nice, would have brought up the 25kg!!! But I guess I'll just have to save that for next week. Am still feeling a bit crap so will probably have to give the gym a miss again tonight, but I think I should be ready to get back to it tomorrow.

Am going to try and get out on the weekend and hire a couple of bikes. Should be interesting. I always enjoy it, but the constant bitching and moaning from hubby about how sore his butt is always makes for a funny day (gee I'm nasty!!). It's funny how now that I'm fitter and healthier that I plan to do things for the day that are exercise, but I don't actually consider them as that anymore. Gotta say, I really enjoy that aspect of this whole weight loss caper!

Not looking forward to weigh in

I have weigh in tomorrow and to say I'm not looking forward to it would be a gross understatement. But at least I can say it's not because of anything I've eaten this week. I am currently laying in bed with about 5 layers of blankets over me, pj's on with a ridiculously thick jumper over the top and still strugging to keep warm. My throat feels like someone is running their fingernails up and down it scratching the living daylights out of it, and my lungs feel like they're about to jump out of my throat each time I cough, which incidentally is happening just about every time I breathe out. So to say I'm feeling crap would be yet another gross understatement!!! I had only just gotten over a stomach bug that I had last week and now I get hit with this - not happy at all.

Obviously my gym routine has pretty much disappeared this week. I felt ok on Sunday after the tummy bug so I went to the gym for a pretty good session, but later that night I could feel the aching joints and the sore throat coming on and I've felt crap ever since. So that's it for the gym this week - one measly session. Now I know there isn't much I can do about it, but as this week was the first week I had tried the Core plan with WW, I was really interested to see what the results would be but I guess I'll just have to wait another week to find out. Not the end of the world I guess, but I still would have liked to have known. I have been spot on with my eating (well, other than the times when anything I ate or drank simply ended up revisiting me if you know what I mean!!) so you never know, the result tomorrow might not be too bad, but I know my body needs the exercise to really lose anything, so whilst I remain hopeful, I'm also being realistic.

As far as the Core plan has been going, I think I have found the best plan for me as I feel it's something I can happily do forever. I can't see myself counting points each and every day for every single thing that goes into my mouth for the rest of my life, but I can see myself just eating simple, healthy food with the 21 point allowance a week for the odd treat or ingredient I can't do without in cooking etc. It is a LOT easier, and I'm not getting to the end of the day wondering what I can have with the remaining 2 points I have even though I'm not hungry. With Core, I'm not hungry, I don't eat, it's that simple. It's pretty much the way I've been eating all throughout my weight loss journey anyway so it doesn't feel to foreign to me.

Well, I'm off to hop in yet another hot shower to hopefully try and warm myself up and see if that improves me any! Fingers crossed for tomorrow!!

It's official

I am now officially past the halfway mark. And I managed to bring it up in style. I lost 1.7kg this week. I knew I had been really good with my exercise and as I only had a tiny loss last week I knew my body would probably be kind to me this week, but I wasn't expecting that much. Can't say I'm upset though of course!! I have been incorporating a fair bit of rowing into my workouts and a lot more running, so I guess that has paid off.

Apart from such a good result, I'm not feeling great today. I had the worst nights sleep ever last night and am seriously struggling to get through the day. I want chocolate, I want sugar, I want chips, I want a glass of wine. BUT I haven't succombed so that can only be a good thing. Well I would certainly hope I haven't succombed to the glass of wine seeing as I'm sitting at my desk at work (I do normally work hard, honestly!). I'm basically just sitting here wishing away the next 28 minutes (I finish at 4:47 - that's right, 4:47. Not 4:45 or 4:50!) until I can get out of here and get down to the gym. As much as I don't want to go, I know I'll feel better when I do and that's something I wouldn't have done a few months ago so I've certainly come a long way.

Here's to another good week and reaching that 25kg loss next week. It will be a struggle, but I'm prepared to give it a damn good shake!

I love my hubby!

That would obviously go without saying, otherwise he wouldn't be my hubby, but my gorgeous hubby reminded me yesterday just how lucky I really am to have someone like him in my life.

I have liked the idea of going to a health retreat for a week long break for quite some time now. However, I would never have booked myself in as I just think it's too much money to spend on myself. I'm one of those types of people - I woudn't bat an eyelid at spending $1400 on my hubby's guitar that he got a couple of months ago, but to spend even a couple of hundred on myself wouldn't be something I would ever do. Yesterday, I was reading a magazine that had a story about a health retreat in it. In passing I mentioned to my hubby that I would love to go to one of those one day. He tried to convince me that I should go, it would be good etc etc. but I wasn't having any of it. The thought of spending $2100 for 6 days on myself just freaks me out! Well, unbeknowns to myself yesterday afternoon while I was out, hubby went ahead and booked me in for October!

I am a little scared about what is involved, but I know that if I fully embrace the program, I will come back a different person. Well, maybe not different, but definitely better! Basically, if you do the program package, everything you need is included. You can do it as an individual guest, but I think I'll get way more benefit from it if I do the program. All your meals, snacks and beverages are included, all your activities from deep water running to yoga, tai chi to mountain hiking...everything you could possibly think of, is included. You get to go to seminars on a wide array of topics, and you also get 2 massages, a facial and a session with a naturopath or dietician included. On arrival you get an evaluation done on your health and fitness, and you can do it again at the end of your stay to see what changes have been made. There are also a wide range of other things that you can pay for such as acupuncture sessions, different types of massages, body treatments, pedicures...you name it, they have it!!!

It's not cheap, but I think I will really benefit from this. You can't drink any alcohol (which will be difficult for me while staying in the Hunter Valley, it just seems wrong!!!), any caffeinated drinks, no sugar, you can only use your mobile in your room...there are a few rules, but I think the benefits will far outweigh anything that I might have to complain about and I really can't wait. I truly am one lucky lady when it comes to my relationship. I got myself a good one, that's for sure! Now I just wish October would hurry up!!!

16 July 2008

Whoa...we're halfway there!!

Whoa, livin' on a prayer!! Ok, got a little carried away there, but I'm just about halfway there. I'm a mere 700g off being halfway through my weight loss journey and let me tell you, it feels fantastic!!! I never dreamed I would make it to halfway this quickly, and I'm pretty damn happy about it.

After missing my meeting last week, I was hoping for a pretty big number seeing as it would be my loss over 2 weeks. Well, I got it. I have lost 2.1kg in the last 2 weeks. Didn't think I would see quite that big a number, I thought maybe a kilo, kilo and a half over 2 weeks, so I'll definitely take it! I seem to be really cruising along at this weight loss thing at the moment. It truly doesn't seem that difficult for me right now, so I think I need to take advantage of that while I can. Get in all the gym workouts I can, eat nothing that I know I shouldn't, stay in complete and total control of my life. I'm completely prepared for things to stagnate eventually, but hopefully I'll be ready for that if it happens.

Gorgeous hubby is taking me away this weekend for reaching my 20kg loss. He really is a sweetheart! We are staying by the beach in a gorgeous hotel, dinner has been booked (seafood restaurant with a seafood platter on the menu that includes NO deep fried stuff and no chips!! How good is that?!?!), so I'm really looking forward to just chilling out and realising how far I really have come. I can't believe I'm the same person that I was 5 months ago, I look at photos and don't even recognise myself. And it's not even just the fact that I'm skinnier. I look really happy. I guess I didn't realise it, but I suppose I haven't been happy for a long time and most of it was stemming from not liking what I saw in the mirror. Well, the times they are a changin' and I'm determined that the next half of my weight loss journey is going to be just as successful and I'll be at goal in no time!!!

Unknown entity

I missed my meeting this week for the first time in 22 weeks! It wasn't because I didn't want to go, or thought I had gained weight or anything like that. I had my RDO on Wednesday which normally doesn't stop me from going, I normally get up early and take my hubby to work so I can take the car and go to my meeting (I go to a different meeting though, not my at work meeting as I just can't face going to work on my day off!!). But seeing as hubby took me to see Phantom of the Opera on Tuesday night and we didn't get home until 1am, I just couldn't get myself out of bed at 6am to do that! I weighed myself on my Wii and it told me I'd lost 100g, so I'm ok with that, but in reality what my body did last week is unknown, so I'll just have to wait and see next week.

Last week was pretty difficult for me which is why I'm ok with 'only' losing 100g. We had some horrible things go on last week, and I can most definitely say I'm not an emotional eater. I can hear some of you probably reading this and thinking 'BITCH!!' lol, but it's not always a good thing, honestly!!! I basically have to be force fed when I'm stressed or upset, so I know I didn't get all the nutrition I needed last week. I didn't eat anything 'bad' though, so I'm pretty happy with that. It would have been easy to grab takeaway, but I continued to make home cooked dinners so I'm happy with that as well. I was also just utterly exhausted, mentally and physically, so only made it to the gym twice. I did get up a couple of mornings to use my Wii, and I also went for a couple of good walks during my lunch break, but my activity levels were nowhere near where I'm used to them being now.

But I've moved on from last week, put the past behind me, and I'm back into the swing of things! I went for a big walk on Wednesday, went to the gym last night, am going again tonight (I normally don't go on Friday night's but I've decided I need to this week), and will be hitting the gym again on the weekend. I'm eating properly again, and feel so much better than I did last week. Now I just hope that next week the scales will reflect that!

02 July 2008

Feeling mighty fine

Well....I did it. I have now lost 20kgs. 20.2kgs to be precise! I had a 0.5kg loss this week, which, whilst small in comparison to some of my losses, I am more than happy with because it brought up that milestone for me. Never in my life have I lost 20kgs. I've gained it before, and then some, but never got rid of it lol!

I am now nearly halfway through my weight loss journey. It's still a bit scary to think that I have about 25kg still to lose, but I figure I've nearly done that now, so I can do it again. I may even have to reassess my goal weight sooner than planned, because I'm just not sure my body will get down to where it needs to be, going by the ol' BMI that is. I'm very tall and when I'm slim have a very athletic figure and build muscle very easily, so I might even be halfway now. I guess I'll just have to wait and see when the time comes.

It's taken me 20 weeks to lose those 20.2kg, so to say I'm ecstatic about my progress would be an understatement. I doubt I'll be able to continue losing like that, but if I was able to, I would be at my goal weight on Christmas eve. Now wouldn't that be a great christmas present?! I'm hoping I can have some smaller weeks and then in between have weeks where I lose nearly 2kg as has been the case so far to bump up the averages! If I don't make it by christmas, I'll make it by my birthday which is 3 weeks after christmas. I vowed to myself at the start of this that I would not be spending another birthday even as little as a kilo overweight, and I'm not about to change my mind on that now.

More and more people who don't know I'm on WW are commenting on how much weight I've lost, which in the past would have embarassed me as in the past I perhaps felt as though I didn't want people to see that in case I failed again and put it all back on. This time, I'm happy to tell people how much I've lost, I'm happy to tell them how I'm doing it, and I think that's because I KNOW this is the last time I will ever be trying to lose weight. I will not gain any of this back. Never. I owe it to myself and I'll be damned if I'm going to not give myself what I know now I deserve.
