I'm still alive!

Yes, I survived my first ever pump class last night. But man are my inner thighs sore today!! I thought we were going to do lunges forever! Other than that, I feel pretty good, but apparently the worst is to come tomorrow. I didn't feel stupid, someone doing the class came and helped me out straight away with what weight I should use etc. and the instructor was really nice. So I'll definitely be going back! Getting to that first class has always been the major hurdle for me, I was just too shy, too nervous etc. but now that I've got it out of the way, I'm not afraid anymore!

Thanks to the lovely Jetsetter Jess for the comment she left me! As for what my exercise routine is generally like, I try and keep it relatively high intensity. I go to the gym generally 5 days a week, Fridays and Sundays are generally the days I don't. Through the week I'll do 45 minutes cardio, a 5 minute warm up and then the rest at a pretty high intensity, generally aim to get my heart rate up to about 150 with running or using the arc trainer at a high level. Saturdays I do an hour of cardio and also some weights. I also do weights on Wednesday nights as well. Sundays are generally filled with some sort of activity, but not at the gym. Hubby and I will hire bikes, or we'll go for a walk somewhere. It's not high intensity, but I'll do it for a few hours so it definitely is worthwhile. I guess it seems like a lot, but it's not a chore for me anymore. I am genuinely enjoying being so active and get pretty cranky when I can't get to the gym as often as I like to! Hard to believe I'm the same person really! After last night I'm sure I'll be incorporating a pump class or 2 each week replacing one weight and cardio session I guess. Hope that helps you get motivated Jess!

Today I have weigh in - after the way I've been this week with food and exercise, I think I'll bloody well scream if I don't have a decent loss! I don't feel like I have so I'm a bit worried about that. Time will tell I suppose.

Pump up the jam, pump it up....

Tonight marks a serious change in attitude for me. Tonight I'm doing.....drum roll please....

A PUMP CLASS!!!!

Am I crazy? Highly possible and in fact, highly likely! Am I ridiculously shit scared! You bet! You see, I've never been what you could call....co-ordinated. I have broken few bones in my time, but the ones I have broken have generally been as a result of some stupid, clumsy accident, like the time I broke a toe by dropping a glass bottle on it, the time I broke my foot by walking into the door frame or the time I chipped my tailbone falling down the stairs of the Sydney International Aquatic Centre the week it opened...in front of hundreds of people! Pretty much all of my injuries over the course of my life have been along those lines. When I was growing up, I was a competitive swimmer - it was pretty much the only sport I couldn't really injure myself in (but even then I did because someone moved the overhead flags during a backstroke race so the amount of strokes I'd counted from the flags to the wall changed and I bruised my wrist up pretty bad hitting the wall!!!)! So I've always been completely freaked out at the prospect of doing a fitness class, least of all with other people who will be able to bear witness to my profoud level of unco-ordination.

So over the last few weeks I've done some soul searching. Do I want to be a new, improved version of myself? You bet. Do I want to let things stand in my way of achieving my goals? Hell no. I want to be the sort of person who at least gives things a go and doesn't let a little bit of fear or unco-ordination hold her back. So tonight hubby and I are going to our first pump class. As I said, I'm completely shitting myself about it, but I know I'll be fine. The other thing that has me worried is that even though around people I know I am a complete loudmouth and far from shy, when I'm around people I don't know I barely talk so that part of it is scaring me a little which is why I roped hubby in to do it with me mwahahahaha!!!

So fingers crossed I live to tell the tale. I know you're probably thinking I'm being a bit dramatic, but it really is a big deal for me, so whilst I'm scared, I'm really proud of myself for making this change. I'm sure my muscles will be screaming out in pain tomorrow, but in a weird masochistic way, I'm looking forward to it!

A loss (somehow)

This week I had a bit of a fall from grace. Nothing too bad, but I certainly ate foods this week that haven't been part of my diet for 6 months. Thankfully I didn't eat too much of them either, and still somehow managed to record a loss so I am incredibly happy with that.

We had a few social events this week kicking off with my pop's birthday dinner. We had chinese and what started with good intentions, didn't end quite so well! I ordered my usual steamed prawn dumplings - no problems. I ordered stir fried calamari and vegetables with boiled rice - no problems. However, I didn't need to dive in to my husband's roast duck (complete with crispy skin because what is roast duck if you can't have the skin?!?!). I also didn't need to eat the big chocolate truffle after dinner either. I didn't need to eat the 2 chocolate truffles I had on Saturday from the same place. I also didn't need to eat the 2 giant biscuits I got from the Five Dock street fair on Sunday either.....

Obviously I managed to make up for it all in exercise. I don't feel guilty about eating what I did, but I know that I can't make a habit of it so this week I am completely refocussed and know I won't have another week like that in a long time. I wouldn't say I 'needed' to have a week like that, but I don't think it hurts sometimes either, especially if you come out the other side knowing that it was a one off and that you have to get back on the wagon, which is what I've done.

So I'll take my 300g loss thank you very much and will get cracking on a great loss next week!

Sweet!

Today I broke through the 25kg lost milestone. And not just broke through - smashed through it! I somehow managed to lose 1.5kg this week taking my total lost to 26.2kg in 26 weeks. Some might think that is a little quick as it's just a tick over a kilo a week, but I can honestly say that I am not under eating, that is for damn sure! I now have a shade under 20kg left to go - it is a nice relief to see the number 1 at the start of the number of kilos I have left to lose!

Feeling surprisingly good!

I don't know why I'm surprised, but I'm feeling really good at the moment! I feel as though now that I have switched over to the Core plan, that things are a lot easier for me right now. My life isn't consumed (pardon the pun!) by how many points I've had, what else I can eat to make sure I don't eat too few points (even when I'm not hungry) etc etc. It sounds too simple, but I'm just eating like a 'normal' person! I eat fresh food 99.9% of the time and allow myself the occasional treat. I'm enjoying exercise like I haven't enjoyed it for years, probably since I was a teenager and still swimming competitively. Maybe I've gotten into the olympic spirit or something, I don't know!! All I know is that I feel good, I think I've finally gotten to a point where I can feel if I have or haven't lost weight and there are times when I look at myself in the mirror that I just can't believe how different I look.

Hubby and I did end up hiring bikes on Saturday. You can hire them for 1, 2 or up to 4 hours, so we went with the up to 4 hours option, thinking we'd be lucky to last 2 as that's how long we used to last in the bad ol' days!! I don't know how far we ended up riding, but it must have been a damn long way as we took the bikes back with about 10 minutes to spare! We rode around Bicentennial Park, the olympic site, the showground and even all the way along the Parramatta River and just about down to Parramatta! We did stop a couple of times to watch a bit of the games on a big screen at Olympic Park, but all in all we rode for pretty much the entire 4 hours. Every time we came to a hill, I was out of my seat and pedalling like a maniac and not once did I have to get off my bike to walk up a hill! That simply wouldn't have been possible a few months ago. For some reason, even though I don't have as much padding there as I used to, even my arse didn't get as sore as it used to! There was no whinging from hubby or I, we were quite happy to keep going until we had to take the bikes back. It was such a nice day out in the sun together really enjoying each others company and also doing something good for our bodies without even really realising it. Something I am keen to make a bit of a habit.

I have weigh in tomorrow - I FEEL as though I've lost weight, my pants seem to be looser this week so hopefully that will reflect well on the scales. I've gradually been going through everything I own and getting rid of stuff that simply doesn't fit me anymore and will never fit me again! It was hard to believe that some of the things I tried on used to fit me as the pants looked like clown pants and the tops were literally swimming on me. I threw out some clothes that I had from Big City Chic - I've generally been a size small in their stuff, and even those things were too big so it was really exciting to know that I don't have to go into those stores anymore!! Could it be that I am finally of a 'normal' size?? Sure, I still have a ways to go, but I'm wearing clothes from Sussans, Suzanne Grae, the 'normal' section of Myer and Target, and it can only get better!

Pleasantly surprised

Have just come back from my meeting and am very pleased to have recorded a loss of 0.6kg. Considering I did next to no exercise this week, I can't be unhappy. Having said that of course, another 300g would have been nice, would have brought up the 25kg!!! But I guess I'll just have to save that for next week. Am still feeling a bit crap so will probably have to give the gym a miss again tonight, but I think I should be ready to get back to it tomorrow.

Am going to try and get out on the weekend and hire a couple of bikes. Should be interesting. I always enjoy it, but the constant bitching and moaning from hubby about how sore his butt is always makes for a funny day (gee I'm nasty!!). It's funny how now that I'm fitter and healthier that I plan to do things for the day that are exercise, but I don't actually consider them as that anymore. Gotta say, I really enjoy that aspect of this whole weight loss caper!

Not looking forward to weigh in

I have weigh in tomorrow and to say I'm not looking forward to it would be a gross understatement. But at least I can say it's not because of anything I've eaten this week. I am currently laying in bed with about 5 layers of blankets over me, pj's on with a ridiculously thick jumper over the top and still strugging to keep warm. My throat feels like someone is running their fingernails up and down it scratching the living daylights out of it, and my lungs feel like they're about to jump out of my throat each time I cough, which incidentally is happening just about every time I breathe out. So to say I'm feeling crap would be yet another gross understatement!!! I had only just gotten over a stomach bug that I had last week and now I get hit with this - not happy at all.

Obviously my gym routine has pretty much disappeared this week. I felt ok on Sunday after the tummy bug so I went to the gym for a pretty good session, but later that night I could feel the aching joints and the sore throat coming on and I've felt crap ever since. So that's it for the gym this week - one measly session. Now I know there isn't much I can do about it, but as this week was the first week I had tried the Core plan with WW, I was really interested to see what the results would be but I guess I'll just have to wait another week to find out. Not the end of the world I guess, but I still would have liked to have known. I have been spot on with my eating (well, other than the times when anything I ate or drank simply ended up revisiting me if you know what I mean!!) so you never know, the result tomorrow might not be too bad, but I know my body needs the exercise to really lose anything, so whilst I remain hopeful, I'm also being realistic.

As far as the Core plan has been going, I think I have found the best plan for me as I feel it's something I can happily do forever. I can't see myself counting points each and every day for every single thing that goes into my mouth for the rest of my life, but I can see myself just eating simple, healthy food with the 21 point allowance a week for the odd treat or ingredient I can't do without in cooking etc. It is a LOT easier, and I'm not getting to the end of the day wondering what I can have with the remaining 2 points I have even though I'm not hungry. With Core, I'm not hungry, I don't eat, it's that simple. It's pretty much the way I've been eating all throughout my weight loss journey anyway so it doesn't feel to foreign to me.

Well, I'm off to hop in yet another hot shower to hopefully try and warm myself up and see if that improves me any! Fingers crossed for tomorrow!!
