Different scales, same result

Well I weighed in at a different meeting today as my leader was sick and our meeting had to be cancelled. There was no way I wasn't weighing in today as I get myself so worked up on weigh in days so buggered if that was going to be for no reason! I found a meeting nearby work and headed off there during my lunch break. I was assured that the scales are calibrated often so I was confident that whatever showed up on the different set of scales would be pretty accurate. We don't wear shoes in our meeting so when I got to the meeting at Ryde today I weighed in with my shoes on, then weighed my shoes! I must have looked a bit of a loon, but I wanted a real result dammit!!

And what a result it was! 1.7kgs down this week. I couldn't believe it. I have been so busy this week that I've only had time to go to the gym 3 times (granted for longer sessions than usual, and I've started running so I was getting the most out of those sessions) and as I had drunk a bottle of wine on Saturday when I haven't really been drinking that much, I wasn't sure how my body would respond to that. But respond it did, and thankfully in a positive way. I have now reached and surpassed my 10% loss. Experts say that losing just 10% of your body weight will have you feeling healthier and just generally better and I can honestly say this is the best I have felt in years. Even my resting heart rate has dropped so that can only be a good thing. I am fitter, I look better, I've never had bad skin, but if I do say so myself, my skin is actually glowing. I've always thought that was such a stupid statement, but it is actually true. Quite a few people have actually suspected me of being pregnant (not because of my belly either!!) but because my skin and hair look so healthy. What more motivation do I need to keep going?

I have never felt better, and if I feel this great after losing nearly 14kgs, I can't wait to see how great I feel when I'm at goal.

New habits

Well, what a weekend! It was very busy and I hardly feel like I've had a break at all, but I have my RDO tomorrow so hopefully will get to catch up on sleep and exercise tomorrow.

Friday we went to the footy with my in laws. Mum in law is a roosters fan, dad in law is a dragons fan so dad in law was definitely smiling by about 5pm Friday afternoon! We met up at the pub beforehand and I had one beer and whilst everyone around me was eating burgers and chips, I had a thai beef salad! And I actually really enjoyed it. Not only did it taste nice, but I enjoyed the fact that I'd made a wise decision and was proud of myself for doing that. We went out to dinner after the game and went to a Korean BBQ place so again, pretty healthy.

Saturday kicked off with a mammoth gym session including my longest continuous run yet followed by some interval running. I wouldn't have thought your stomach muscles got that much of a workout running, but man were they sore yesterday! We then went over to see friends that night. I did indulge in a bottle of wine, but generally when I'm with these friends, we drink till the cows come home, so only having one bottle was a positive for me!! Before dinner there were chips, dips, crackers and cheese, but I made sure I brought some olives with me and just nibbled on a few of those. That was a big achievement for me because I LOVE cheese and dip!! Dinner was fresh seafood, prawns, oysters, some garlic prawns cooked on the bbq...I was really pleased to see that actually because I knew I could have as much as I needed to be full and the points wouldn't be too high. Once the singstar and guitar hero games got into full swing, there were more chips and nuts, but I again steered well clear. Considering we got to bed at about 5am, for me to not have more to drink or anything else to eat is a massive deal and I am really proud of myself for doing that. And for not feeling like I was missing out on anything as well.

We did have chinese for dinner last night (I was too tired to cook anything!), but we had boiled rice, teriyaki chicken and short soup so I again chose wisely and stopped when I could feel myself getting a little bit full.

One of the friends we went and saw on Saturday asked my hubby when I was in the bathroom if I'd lost weight cause I looked like I'd lost a fair bit (she wasn't sure if she should say something to me or not). It was really nice as it's all well and good hearing it from people who know for a fact that you have lost weight and know that you're doing WW, but she had no idea and we haven't seen them for a few months. For some reason it's not enough just knowing you've lost weight and you look different, I have to hear it from other people so that certainly put a smile on my face and has given me that little bit of extra motivation to keep this ball rolling!

Another (just about) kilo gone forever

Ok, so it's not quite a kilo, but I'm claiming it! Had weigh in today and lost 0.9kgs meaning I've now lost 12.2kgs in 10 weeks. Gotta be happy about that!

I think this whole WW has become a habit now. I know how to eat, I know how much exercise I need to do in order to a) feel good and b) get a good weight loss. It's all becoming second nature to me now. I have been doing some more running this week - not a lot, but we've all gotta start somewhere, and I am feeling really good about that and the amount of calories it helps me burn. And it seems to be a habit now to just eat good, healthy, nutritious (and low point) food and watch my portions which is like a revelation!

It'll be interesting to put it to the test on Saturday. We are catching up with great friends who we haven't seen for a while. Generally, the nights at their place involve BBQ dinner, lots of drinking, singstar and guitar hero followed by party pies and sausage rolls in the wee hours of the morning when everyone's hungry again! I'm planning on taking one bottle of wine, and only drinking that, and I'm going to make a couple of salads/side dishes to take with me as they normally make a creamy potato bake which I just don't want to go near! I know I CAN do it, it's just a matter of whether I WILL do it. It helps knowing I'll probably feel better than everyone else the next day as well I guess, so I should use that as incentive!

Back on track

Just back from weigh in and absolutely ECSTATIC to report a loss of 1kg on the nose. That takes my total loss to 11.3kgs and also takes me under 120kgs for the first time in god knows how long!

Not much else to report other than I am planning on being completely on track this week with everything - food, exercise, the lot. I am planning on upping the intensity of my exercise to include more running so hopefully that will see the scales shift again next week. I feel unstoppable at the moment and that pitiful little gain last week is now a thing of the past thank god! I can't believe I let myself get so upset over 100g! At least I can laugh now I suppose.

So here's to another great week and here's to those dastardly scales being kind to us all!

Blah

Well as you can probably tell, I'm feeling decidedly average today. My stomach has felt bloated for the last few days and I can't bloody well work out why! I've started taking probiotics again as they helped a while ago when I was feeling like this all the time, so I'm hoping they start to kick in soon (please please please?). I have weigh in tomorrow and whilst I'm confident that I SHOULD lose weight considering how I've gone this week, with the feeling I have in my stomach I'm not confident at all. I think my clothes are fitting better (or worse I guess cause my jeans are pretty much past the point of no return now! Look out shops, here I come!!), I think I look slimmer, but I also think it may be in my head. I hate this feeling - I KNOW I'm going well, I KNOW I'm eating well, I KNOW I'm exercising and doing everything I can for my body. Yet I don't know how the scales are going to respond and it shits me to think they may not be kind to me again tomorrow. I guess I just have to wait and see!

The one positive to come out of this is how I've handled it. I haven't at any point thought to myself "stuff it, I can't lose weight so I may as well give up" and that makes me feel proud of myself. I've just kept plugging away at it, just as I did last week when I had that miserable little gain. That has never happened in the past - I would have got to this point, thought I couldn't do anymore and thrown in the towel. The fact that I haven't done that proves to me what I probably knew, or at least should have known, deep down - I CAN and I WILL bloody well do this! Look out exercise bike tonight - you're in for a workout!!

10 April 2008

New day, new attitude!

Right, well I'm over my little hissy fit from yesterday and back on the road to weight loss. I didn't go off the rails, didn't fall off the wagon or any other stupid cliche you want to throw at it. Did I feel sorry for myself? Sure I did. But I'm happy about how I handled it. I went to the gym and worked out harder than I have in this entire 2 months. I've decided to really help myself handle it, I'm going to be extra super diligent with my tracking and write everything down (I usually do through the week, but weekends I forget - though I always count in my head), exercise like a demon and just generally do everything I can to ensure that I see a loss next week. I told my leader it would be at least 200g - taking off the 100g gain and at least some kind of a loss. Anything more than that and I will be stoked so I definitely think that should be attainable! Thank you to those who posted comments - it's good to know I'm not crazy!

Also bought a pedometer at my meeting yesterday - that thing does everything but tell you the cycle of the moon I think! It was a little hard to work out at first, but now I've set it up it's pretty easy. I will not rest each day until I've at least reached my 10,000 steps! Even if that means marching up and down on the spot in my lounge room at night and looking like a goose, I'll do it! Have so far done about 4,000 steps so might need to make some more trips around the office and up and down some stairs for a while. Hey - whatever it takes right!

09 April 2008

Well this sucks

Just had weigh in - gained 100g. A hundred bloody grams!!! I know I'm being completely irrational and ridiculous, but that just pisses me off! I would have been content to stay exactly the same this week given last week's huge loss, but I was not expecting, nor was I prepared for, a gain, no matter how small it was.

My leader though it was fantastic as she had expected me to possibly gain and because I have lost on average 1.3kgs a week (she added it up and announced it to everyone leaving me suitably embarassed to be upset over such a small gain!). When she saw I was a bit upset and I told her I would have been happy to stay the same at worst, she actually sent me to the bathroom to see if that would make any difference, but alas I was exactly the same when I came back which sucks! I told her that I had been almost angelic this week whereas in the previous 2 weeks I had eaten blue cheese, krispy kreme donuts, drunk wine and still had great losses....so I was going to do that again in the coming week to see if I lost again next week lol! I was of course joking, but it does make you wonder what on earth goes on in your body when things like that happen.

Anyway, nothing I can do about it now. Just have to get over it and get on with it. I warned my leader to be prepared for a good loss next week as there was no way I wanted another week like this one. Maybe I'm being a little hysterical about it all, but if such a tiny loss gets my butt and head into a completely different gear, then it can't be all bad.
