New pics...

Just thought I'd post up some pics of my department's fancy dress christmas party from Friday night. It was a Hollywood theme so everyone had to come as a movie character. I, obviously, went as Dorothy!

I was trying to show someone a yoga pose and they just weren't understanding...so I decided to demonstrate, honestly!

Me skipping up the yellow brick road...well, red carpet, to collect my award.

At last....

I have now lost 35kg! Well, 36.1kg to be precise. After basically being at a standstill over the last couple of weeks, I managed a loss of 1.3kg this week, even after having our department christmas party and my dad's birthday thrown in there. I certainly was far from angelic with food (and more specifically, alcohol) this week, but perhaps my body just needed a bit of a jolt, some sort of a shock to the system.

I now have 10kg to go. Just 10kg. I seriously can't believe it. I never would have thought in a million years that I would lose over 35kg from the time I started (mid February) to now. Never ever would have thought it was possible. Well, possible, just not possible for me I guess!

I decided yesterday I would lay buy myself some christmas presents so did a bit of clothes shopping yesterday on my day off. Everything is either a size 12 or 14. Me, a size 12?! I kept taking size 16's and 18's into the dressing room and was surprised when they were too big, I still can't quite get my head around being the size I am because to me a size 12 is someone tiny, and I'm definitely not tiny. I'm 5ft 10 with a big build, so I wouldn't have thought a size 12 was at all possible so it's going to take some serious getting used to I would think. I bought 2 cute singlet tops, a really nice white cotton top, a gorgeous summer dress and skirt and a pair of linen shorts. I can't wait until I get to REALLY buy an entire new wardrobe! I'm sure my credit card can wait, but it'll get over it!

Uh oh....

I think I have reached the dreaded....PLATEAU!

I lost 100g today which is exactly the same as I lost last week. I know I lost a heap a few weeks back, but my body generally only has a small loss for 1 week after a big loss, now this has happened for 2 weeks. And I'm not even sure I really lost weight this week, I just wore long tailored shorts to work instead of trousers which probably accounts for the 100g!

I'm not really sure how I'm going to cope with a plateau if that truly is what it is. Given that it's nearly christmas time and I also have my dad's, my niece's and my birthday all within a couple of weeks of christmas, I was going to be happy to lose just a kilo in between now and the new year. If I have hit a plateau, that makes that extremely unlikely I would think.

I feel like I'm working so hard at the moment and it just feels as though it could be taken away from me in one swoop. I know that's a stupid thing to think, as I'm not going to suddenly gain nearly 35kg back, but it's hard for me to see the light at the end of the tunnel at the moment I guess. I'm so close to goal with just over 10kg left to go, and I am really starting to feel like those 10kgs are going to be sooooo hard to get rid of. I know they say the last few are the hardest, and I was prepared for that, but I don't think I'm prepared for losing virtually nothing for weeks on end, barely inching towards my goal weight.

Aaargh, I realise how ridiculous I'm being. I just need to remind myself how well I've done so far and perhaps accept that it's going to be rough for me for the next however long. But I also need to not get complacent and think that I've already lost so much, that I can simply relax for a while. If I have hit a plateau, now is the time for me to seriously shake things up and get my arse seriously into gear. I know it will be hard given how strapped for time I will be over the next few weeks, but if I truly want this (and I do), then it's just something that has to be done.
Here's hoping I can double my weight loss next week (surely 200g wouldn't be too much to ask?!) and reach that elusive 35kg!

Oh, and just on a final note, here are a couple of pics from the weekend. Hubby and I went up to the Hunter Valley for the day to look at the Christmas Lights Spectacular at the Gardens up there. It was sooooo beautiful. I've even got a full length shot shock horror! It isn't the best as I was not only a bit sunburnt, but my hair looked like a drowned rat as there was some pretty severe storms off and on during the day. Don't know why I bothered to straighten my hair in the first place!

Wow!!!

I knew I'd lost weight since my last official weigh in - I lost 2.5kg at the health retreat so figured it would be somewhere around that, if not less cause I generally have a small gain after such a big loss. I would have been happy with 2kg over the last 3 weeks. However when I stepped on the scales I couldn't believe it - I not only lost more than the 2.5kg I lost while I was away, I've lost another kilo since I've been back!

I am still off the caffeine, sugar, salt, basically all processed foods...and I'm still feeling and looking (I hope!) great. My next major goal was 35kg gone so I'm just 400g away from that now so hopefully in the next fortnight I'll reach that. I think it would be too much to expect it next week considering how quickly my body has lost the last few weeks, so I'll be happy to get there in the next 2.

Next week signals the start of a whole host of work christmas parties so it'll be interesting to see how I handle that...I know I'll probably get drunk a couple too many times and as much as I'm not necessarily proud of that, it is a fact so I'll just have to deal with it!! However just because I'm going to do that, I'm hoping I'll still be able to continue with everything else. I know how good I feel now so I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to.

Still can't believe I lost 3.5kg in 3 weeks....WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I'm baaaaack!

So I'm now back in reality after spending a week at a health retreat and a few days in Nelson Bay. What can I say about the health retreat? Well, it was absolutely friggin' awesome! I had an absolute ball. After being completely and ridiculously nervous about going, all those stupid thoughts I had like what if I'm not fit enough, what if I don't make any friends, what if I hate it, I can now happily say I was worrying for nothing. And I can confidently say that I am feeling and looking better than I have in a very long time.

It's amazing what a diet with no processed foods, no sugar, no salt, no red meat, no caffeine etc will do for the human body. I thought my diet was already pretty good but after going to a couple of different seminars on detoxing and food and seeing a dietician, I now realise it was a lot further from perfect than I thought it was. I have never been a coffee or tea drinker, I got my caffeine in the form of a coke zero at least once a day. I now haven't had a coke for 2 weeks (I stopped drinking it before I went so I could manage any detoxing symptoms if needed before I got there - luckily I didn't suffer any) and armed with better knowledge of what caffeine does to the body, I realise now it could have impeded my weight loss. I have never had a real sweet tooth or eaten a lot of salt, but now I realise how much of the stuff there is in a lot of processed foods and now know what to look for on food labels to minimise it. I haven't put any salt on anything I've eaten and haven't had a single food item with sugar in it. I left on Sunday, but the only form of meat I've had other than seafood so far is chicken - I think I'm scared how my stomach will react to red meat! The food we were given was for the most part brilliant. The only things I didn't like were a blood orange and pumpkin tart we got given on our last night for dessert - I am strongly against combining sweet and savoury foods so to put pumpkin in a dessert was plan wrong!

I tried heaps of different exercise classes - the spin class was definitely hard core, I haven't sweat that much in a long time and being instructed to keep up with the triathlon competing, 7% body fat guy leading the class left me wanting to get off the bike and punch him lol!! But I kept going and obviously enjoyed it because I did another class later in the week. I tried a cardio box class which was awesome, deep water running which I loved, their super gym circuit which was tough but unreal, pilates, a couple of different style yoga classes from what I normally do which really worked up a sweat, went on a 5km walk most mornings (the mornings I didn't, I did the deep water running) around the neighbouring golf course (after the 6:30am tai chi class which I did EVERY morning! I was so proud that I got myself up in time for that every day!), I pretty much tried everything that was on offer and will definitely be continuing with the cycle class and probably the boxing as well. I really surprised myself with how much I could just keep on keeping on. I spent a bit of time in the gym by myself as well. I probably did a good 3 hours cardio every day, but it wasn't a chore at all which I wasn't expecting.

So that's the hard work I did, now for the fun stuff! On day 1, I had trigger point therapy. Not pleasant while it's being done, but afterwards I felt great. Day 2 I had acupuncture on my neck and shoulder - my neck because I get a lot of tension headaches stemming from my neck and my shoulder for an old swimming injury. Absolutely LOVED it and will definitely be going to see someone to get that done regularly. I noticed within a day or 2 of having both those therapies, the top of my shoulders were actually a different shape - all the tension and knots had been realeased. Day 3 saw me have a whole body swedish massage which was heaven. Day 4 was a salt scrub, mud bath, hot stones massage extravaganza. Again, absolute heaven. Day 5 was a pedicure during which I fell asleep and day 6 was a facial, which again saw me fall asleep!

So all in all, I had an absolutely fantastic time and would live at the Golden Door if I could!!! One of the highlights for me came on my last morning there - I weighed in to discover I had lost 1% body fat and 2.5kg. Unfreakinbelievable!!! Yes, I worked hard and obviously that isn't practical in what we started calling the 'outside world' but to have managed that in a week when my weight has been at a bit of a stalemate lately felt unreal. I haven't officially weighed in with WW yet, but I guess I now have about 12kg to go to get to goal. I needed a jump start to get things moving again and that is certainly what I got. I made some great friends whilst at the Golden Door, had a lot of laughs, a lot of sweat, a lot of good food and in general just good, clean, healthy living. I got so much more than I was expecting and have come out knowing that I am so much stronger than I ever gave myself credit for. I knew I was a reasonably strong person in mind, but had no idea just how strong, and I never would have thought I was that strong in body. My week at the Golden Door has been nothing short of life changing for me and I would recommend it to anybody.

Back to the milestone

Just a quick post this afternoon, but I just wanted to report that I lost the 0.5kg that I put on last week and am now back under the milestone that I reached a couple of weeks ago. Sooooooo happy!!!

Thanks for the message Tegan, I know the photo doesn't really show it but it is a really nice top - never thought I'd wear a halterneck but I surprisingly didn't even feel self conscious in it! Anyone reading this should pop over to Tegan's blog as well, she is looking and doing fantastically!!!

Well that's all from me now - have to head to the shops to get some stuff for a Halloween party my work is having on Friday night. Got my costume sorted, I'm going as a bat, but we just have to get a couple more finishing touches for the room. The next few days are going to be so busy for me, but I just have to remember that I'm off for a week of taking care of myself on Sunday!

I'm scared...

This Sunday I leave for my health spa. I'm seriously shitting myself!!! I'm nervous about going by myself and being around complete strangers for a week, I'm worried that I'm not fit enough, I'm worried that I'll be lonely, I'm just basically feeling really nervous about it all! But at the same time, I can't wait to go and am really looking forward to it. The last couple of weeks things have come to a bit of a standstill for me, so I'm hoping next week will really kick things along and make these next 15kg hurry the hell up! My skin has also started to break out in a rash from the stress I'm dealing with at work at the moment which is not something that happens often, so a week of pampering certainly won't go astray!

Had a great night on Saturday - I know I said I'd try and get a full length photo, but my camera up and died so these are the best I've got. It's not really full length because I'm bending over as I'm so much taller than everyone, but I think it shows how much weight I've lost. I'll put a couple up from the night.

As I said, I know they're not great, but with a dead camera I didn't really want to ask someone to take a full length of me!!! It was really weird not seeing most of these people for quite a few months. I know I'll obviously have to get used to people telling me I look good, that I've lost weight etc, but it's still not something I'm comfortable with. It's especially weird when you still can't REALLY see it yourself. I know I've lost a lot of weight, but most of the time I still feel like I'm the same size I was 8 months ago. I think that's a battle I'm going to have to fight for a long time, even when I get to goal.
If I don't get time to post again before I go, everyone think of me whilst I'm getting my arse kicked next week!!!
